The Abu Dhabi
India Social Centre auditorium witnessed a colourful gathering of
Payyanurians on Friday, the 25 April 2003, yes it was the Vishu Sangamam
2003 organized by the Abu Dhabi Chapter of Payyanur Souhruda Vedi. This was
the second family gathering of Payyanurians after its inception on 17
January 2003. The first gathering was held on 28th February 2003 called as
"Eid Milan 2003".
The program
started with lightening the lamp and prayers by Jayakala & Sindhu. VTV
Damodaran, the General Secretary, welcomed the gathering. M. Abdul Salam,
Vice President presided over the function. Usman Karappath, President of
PSV Abu Dhabi chapter inaugurated the Vishu Sangamam 2003. M. Sarvotham
Shetty, President of the India Social Centre, Abu Dhabi, V.K. Harindran, U.
Bhaskaran Nair, Vice President of PSV, Dubai and Ramesh Panikkar, General
Secretary of I.S.C. offered felicitations.
The grand music
fete was one of the major
items of the day. Shereef Neeleshwaram, K.K. Anil Kumar, Vinod, Riyaz,
Vishnu, Roshini Rajeevan, Preetha Madhu (both members of PSV, Dubai), Sindhu
Ravi, Jayakala Vijayakumar, Vandana Balakrishnan, Selva Shamsuddin & Devi
Gangadharan were the singers. The orchestra was lead by Vinod Kozhikode, the
leading keyboard player of Abu Dhabi.
Rajendran Kavvayi, noted Mimicry
Artist (PSV, Dubai) entertained the gathering with his talented mimicry &
magic. Rugma Chandran (PSV, Dubai), Neema Madhusoodanan , Selva Shamsuddin,
Neetu Ravi, Nivedya Balakrishnan etc presented dance items.
The highlight of the function
was the traditional Vishu Sadya served in plantain leaves. The delicious
sadya comprising of about 22 traditional items were prepared by Arab Udupi
Restaurant, Abu Dhabi.
B. Jyothilal conducted a Quiz on
the rich tradition and current affairs related to Payyanur. Mohammad Saad,
Patron of PSV, distributed the prizes. All the attendees actively
participated in the Quiz competition.
One of the Executive Committee
members, P P Damodaran, entertained the gathering by presenting himself as
the character of leprosy patient of the legendary film and drama of KPAC-
Ashwamedham. Vijayan Kunhimangalam was the make-up man.
A lucky draw was conducted to
raise charity fund for the bereaved family of Balakrishnan, Aduthila who
committed suicide at Al-Ain a few weeks ago. An amount of IRS 10,000 was
collected from the raffle.
New National Marketing Company
(c/o Madhu S Nambiar-vice president of PSV Abu Dhabi) distributed gifts to
all the children who attended the program. TV Radhakrishnan, Mohammed Saad
and Bhaskaran Nair sponsored prizes to the participants of the cultural
programs. M/s Majestic Optical, Grey Mackenzie & Partners, and Ajantha
Jewelers, Gulfa mineral water, Al Faraj travels and Lipton Tea sponsored the
entire function.
