the Sree Subrahmanya Swami Temple. In Hindu puranas, Lord
Subrahmanya is believed to be the God of Astrology. Lord
Subrahmanya is considered as the lord of sun, moon, planets and all
the stars in Hindu mythology. So absolutely there is no doubt why

Nambiar,,
the present link in the great Pothera tradition in Astrology is famous
for his traditional way of handing astrologic issues. He has conducted
various kinds of astrological processes like swarnaprashna, devaprashna
etc in and outside Kerala.
Narayanan Nambiar is the nephew of the famous astrologer and scholar
late Shri Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan and belongs to the same tradition
of the legendary astrologer Pothera Ezhuthachan, the author of
Sooryasthuthi.

Astrology and astrologers are inseparable in the
social life of Payyanurians. Late Shri Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan is
one of the forefront contributors for the development of astrology in
Payyanur area. Earlier astrology was confined within the four walls of
ruling and wealthy families and temples. Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan
endowed a lot in bringing Astrology to the common mass which was then
alien to them. |

In the field of
Astrology, Pothera family was ascendant since time immemorial. The
writer of the historically important book Sooryasthuthi - famous
astrologer and widely known as Pothera Ezhuthachan was the leader and
guide to his successors. Though, there is no exact details of his life
span available, as per historical records, Pothera Ezhuthachan was lived
during the same era of the father of Malayalam language, Shri Thunjath
Ramanujanezhuthachan. As per historical evidence, Shri Pothera
Ezhuthachan recited his Sooryasthuthi in front of Shri Thunjath
Ramanujanezuthachan and the father of Malayalam Language appreciated it
and showered his blessings. The language experts also attest that while
going through the language used in "Sooryasthuthi" it is the same as the
one being used during the period of Thunjathu Ezhuthachan. It is also
said that the name of the God being devoted by Guru Soma Maharshi was
named as "Someswari" by Pothera Ezhuthachan. |

Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan is one of the
inheritor of great Pothera Ezhuthachan. Born on Malayalam Month Kanni
28th 1059, Shri Pothera Krishnanezhuchan was very keen in his childhood
itself in language pronunciation and research. He learnt Sanskrit and
Astrology from famous Astrologer Shri Kandabath Sekharanezuthachan.
Instead of the then contemporary style of
using of tough Sanskrit and Malayalam languages in Astrology, Pothera
Krishnanezhuthachan simplified and used lucid language which helped to
popularise Astrology very fast among the common mass. With this
revolution, Astrology, which was earlier constrained within the walls of
ruling wealthy families and temples, spread out and became familiar with
the common mass. Family problems and group conflicts were solved
amicably by Shri Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan with his expertise and he
gave much importance for such social problems. |

The
contribution of Shri Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan in the field of pious
matter is praiseworthy. Due to in fight between two groups, the
Kannangat Temple of Kokkanisseri was closed. With the timely
intervention of Shri Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan, both the parties were
reunited and the temple was reopened. He also contributed a lot in the
renovation of Madathumpadi temple at Kokkanisseri.
The final
word of all the doubts and Astrological problems in North Malabar was
none other than Shri Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan. He was also ready to
accept advice from youngsters who are capable and this shows his
broadmindedness.
