Get-together at Sharjah National Park, Dubai

Payyanur Souhruda Vedi, UAE organized a get-together for its members and other Payyanurians on 13th Dec, 2002 (Friday). The venue was Sharjah National Park, Sharjah. The function started at 10 in the morning the continued till 5 in the evening. A gathering of around 160 people, including children, attended the get-together. Payyanurians residing in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman gathered at the park at 10 am. PSV President Sri KV Gopalan welcomed the gathering and Ramesh Payyanur, Secretary of PSV gave a small speech detailing out the objectives of the PSV. He had requested the non members to join PSV and the response was very good. On the spot we got around 15 new memberships. Few games for kids and adults were organized which was very well received by the crowd. Also a lucky draw and tambola conducted during the event. The real surprise of the event was the presence of the Ashwamedham Fame GS Pradeep (who happened to be a close family friend of Mr. Chandran from Payyanur). He arrived at the venue around 12.30 and spent his time with Payyanurians till 3.30 pm. He even conducted an Ashwamedham in a unique style - sitting in the grass bed without the cozy ambience of the usual settings. PSV President presented a small memento to Pradeep on behalf of all Payyanurians. The event was concluded with giving away prizes to various winners. The oldest member of PSV, Mr. Ramachandran gave away the prizes. This get-together was very well received by all attended and they said they are looking forward to more functions in the future.

General body meeting - Program Report:

The first general body meeting of Payyanur Koottayma was held at Sharjah Indian Association Hall on 31 May, 2002 Friday. A total of 100 people (including 15 ladies) participated in the event. The meeting started at 5.30 pm and finished at 7.30 p.m.

Mr. Bhaskaran Nair welcomed the gathering on behalf of the Adhoc Committee. Ramesh Payyanur then took over and spoke about the objectives of the new association. The broad objectives identified are:

Bring all UAE Payyanurians under one umbrella
Take care of needy Payyanurians who are returning to home land for their settlement in Payyanur
Give financial support to the needy Payyanurians in UAE or their families back home
Form a Charity Fund for UAE Payyanurians welfare
Actively participate and contribute in the total development of Payyanur
Organize art/cultural events for the children of Payyanurians residing in UAE
Contribute towards raising the standards of education of children of UAE Payyanurians who are studying back home.

The crowd appreciated the sincere efforts of Payyanur.com to bring all Payyanurians together. A new name, Payyanur Souhruda Vedi, was suggested and it got the approval of the gathering. A new working committee was proposed and approved by the gathering. In order to co-ordinate with Payyanur.Com and future plans for Abu Dhabi, the new committee will have 2 members from Abu Dhabi - Jana Das and Jyothilal.

An announcement regarding the SSLC rank holders from Payyanur was made and the crowd welcomed the same with a huge clapping. Further Ramesh informed the crowd about the award function being organized by Payyanur.com at
Payyanur. The gathering wished all the very best for the rank holders.

The meeting was concluded with a vote of thanks by PU Prakashan.

26 April, 2002. Friday

Payyanur eGroup members living in Dubai conducted a get together function on 26th April, 2002 Friday at Grand Hotel Dubai. The main objective of the meeting was to meet each other and share the thoughts and ideas for the goodwill of our native place and society. Ramesh Payyanur moderated the discussion. The discussions resulted in a decision to form an organization of Payyanur natives in UAE, Payyanur Koottayma for the betterment of the hometown as well as its society. As the first step, an ad-hoc committee was formed with Ramesh Payyanur, VP Sasikumar, Bhaskaran Nair, Sreejith, Sunil, Rajendran Kavvayi, Prakasan Kurunthil, and Vinod Kumar as its members. This committee will plan the future activities of the association in Dubai and Sharjah. Also decided to conduct similar meeting at Abu Dhabi soon.
