Dear Friends,

You all will agree that we are tired of the accident news in our NH17 everyday.  Recently it also happened on couple of occasions that fully loaded Buses were trapped on Railway Crossings and it was due to sheer luck that major accidents were diverted at the Railway Crossings.

We lost so many of our near and dear ones in accidents due to the poor condition of the NH17 especially in our area. It is a fact that only in our area the condition of the NH17 is very poor.  In other places like Karnataka and Maharashtra, the condition of NH17 is excellent!!!

In a recent accident at Pallakkunnu, a young man Mr. Chandran got killed instantly while working with a Milk Society in Vellur as Driver.  It is essential to note that the accident just not happened due to unskilled or careless driving.  It is the condition of the road that has to be blamed for, like in most incidents in the past.  It is even sad that a responsible and the solitary breadwinner of a poor family had to die on wheel making his both ends meet.

We all know that it is only in our area where 10 Railway Crossings are present in a Highway within a distance of 220 Kms.  We also have in the NH a large number of dilapidated Bridges which cause accidents very often e.g. the Moidu Palam at Dharmadam.

Since the authorities concerned are not at all bothered about improvement of the NH17 in our area, in order to safeguard the life of our near and dear ones at least in the future, it is high time we raised our voice. As a first step, it has been decided by a group of people who are members of Payyanur egroup to send mass email representations to the concerned authorities. Accordingly, your cooperation and assistance to make our endeavor a grand success by submitting a representation; providing your name and email address would be very much appreciated.

Sincerely Yours,

Jyothilal, Payyanur.com egroup                      Rajashekharan, Programme Co-ordinator
