Govt. Boys High School

History

Government Boys High School is one of the oldest educational institution in North Malabar. It is established in 1919 under Malabar District Board. In 1923 it is converted  as a Government High School. In its preliminary stage most of the teachers were from Southern part of Malabar like Palghat. It was the only high school for people of Payyanur and nearby villages like Karivellur, Mathamangalam, Ramanthali etc. 

In 1977-78 it was decided to divide the school into two as the number of students increased a lot. On 9th September 1982 this school started function as  Govt. Boys High School. Govt. Girls High School started functioning in the neighboring compound. Smt. B.C. SwayamPrabha Amma was the first Head Mistress of Govt. Girls High School.

Now the school offers school education from V std. to X std. Students from this school achieve good records in SSLC examinations every year. In 2000 the school achieved 11 Distinctions and 29 First Classes with 73% success in SSLC examination. Free computer education is offered for students in VIII, IX and X standards. 

This school also offers education in Vocational Higher Secondary level for two batches.  These courses are equivalent to  +2 course ( Commerce Group) besides they can train in vocational courses. Office Secretary ship and Accountancy batches are offered with +2 education.   

Extra curricular activities

Payyanur Boys High school  is always in the top position in all the district and state level    competitions in arts as well as sports.  This school owns a programme auditorium  and hall which is the stage for most of the cultural programmes at Payyanur.

A unit of Junior Division N.C.C ( National Cadet Corps) is attached to the school which is functioning under 32 Kerala Battalion NCC, Payyanur. 

The school has an active Parents Teachers Association, Mother PTA and Old Boys Association
