Comments:hi... i was in payannur for a shoot a month back, and i was fortunate enough to see the theyyam at a temple which is 5 kms before payannur... i think it was the bhagwati kshetram temple or something to that effect... i want to know the name of the place where this temple is situated. the main theyyam involved the carrying of a 30ft high head-dress... u can watch this on channel [v]'s ON THE RUN thurs 8pm, tue 9:30pm. so pls can anybody help me out... it was a grt experience...

I have some suggestions: Could you please provide a calendar of upcoming events in in and nearby Payyanur as well as Kannur & Kasaragod Districts, happenings from even remote village, it will be helpful people like us. Secondly, try to provide some video if you can about poorakali, theyyam, etc etc. You can prepare video for web using microsoft encoder i.e. *.wmv so that the file size will be very very small comparing to normal mpeg 1 or 2 A 680mb size mpeg file can be reduced to 40 mb using this technology. Also, video can be used just for introduction for 2 to 5 minutes duration for which the file size will be below 2mb try it and then watch the comments on your site. So the statement "Payyanur is one of the 141 legislative constituencies of..." is slightly misleading, I think. There are 141 members in Kerala legislative assembly. But only 140 constituency. The 141st member is an anglo indian representative nominated by Goverment

He says, "the so called illeteatre people there dont underst.I wonder how doctors work in a place like this!!!!"--He doesn't know how to spell out the word, 'illiterate'? or may be he knows and did not pay much attention when he wrote!! now coming to the point..If he really belongs to that so called literate group, how come he scribbled something substandard in a guestbook which he knows will be viewed by hundreds!!! He says, he was manhandled by people of payyanur 2-3 times. No wonder, this doctor must have shown the same callous attitude towards his patients too...Dear doctor, payyanur people disturbed your duty not because they were illiterate, but because they have the sense and sensibility to realise good and bad. In one sense, that is the meaning of literacy...pls try to understand !!!

Comments:Very informative. This site really makes me nostaltic and takes me to my childhood/college days. Hats off to those brain behind moulding this excellent site. A small suggestion - if you could include "Kolkali" also which is very famous in and around Payyanur, among those of Poorakali etc. (I was also a member of one of the "Kolkali" troupes in the earlier days). Also the daily news will have to cover a lot of area in and around, which can be elaborate.

Comments:I went through the "Transportation" page of our site. Probably, Perumba Bridge was opened by Mr. R. Shankar, then C.M. of Kerala in 1961. Kuppam Bridge near Taliparamba was opened earlier. With out Kuppam Bridge, a trip to even our Taluk Headquarters at Taliparamba was a difficult one. The All India Railway Strike in 1961 or 1962 paved the way for the first bus service from Payyanur to a place beyond Taliparamba. KSRTC operated direct service from Payyanur to Ernakulam during the strike. After six months, KSRTC started regular service to Ernakulam. As the bridges in the north were still under construction, more services to places like Guruvayoor, Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram were added to its schedule by KSRTC. Payyanur became a major operating station and KSRTC upgraded Payynur to a Depot.
