There
are a number of professional as well as amateur theatre
artistes and troops in and around Payyanur. KP Kunhirama Poduval,
Vaidyar VP Sreekanda Poduval and AV Sreekanda Poduval are the
pioneers in the theatre movement of Payyanur. Dharmanand and KM
Kunhambu who was popularly known as KMK played vital roles in
flourishing the theratre art of Payyanur.
Dr Anand , MT Annur and P.Balachandran also have prominent
places in the field of Theatre art .
The
theatre and television artiste VP Ramachandran ,Malayalam cine
director Mohan Kupleri, C V Balakrishnan, Mohan Payyanur are some of
the names known all over Kerala.
Unnikrishnan Namboothiri("Desadanam" fame), who
entered into the film field only at his old age received a
warm welcome from the filmgoers of Kerala.
There
are 5 film theatres at Payyanur and
newly released Malayalam films are exhibited here. Sumangali,
Rajadhani,
Shanthi, Aradhana and Divya are the names of the film theatres.
Professional dramas are frequently staged by the different fine arts
societies here.
