REQUEST FOR REPAIRS TO NH 17 Honourable Minister/Representative, Being one of the proud citizens, I would like to take this opportunity as my privilege to put forward the following points for your kind consideration and immediate attention, to alleviate the suffering of the public: I am a native of Payyanur in Kannur District. One of the present plights of the people living in the North Malabar region in Kerala, is the poor and obsolete condition of the NH17. Since very often we have to depend other cities like Kozhikode and Mangalore for basic amenities, the present pathetic condition of the NH17 to either side coupled with 10 Railway Crossings and a dozen of dilapidated bridges, it always hinders public even from getting timely medical attention during an emergency. Also to ride just 220 kilometres from Kozhikode to Mangalore, it entails more than 7 to 8 hours whereas the time duration to ride the same distance in NH17 other than this region or on NH47 is only 3 hours. The condition is expected to worsen further with the introduction of new trains on Konkan Railways in the near future on completion of the present dual track railing between Shornur and Mangalore. Under this circumstance, you are requested to kindly take immediate steps to improve the condition of the NH17 in this region by completing the following urgent and genuine on war footing: a) Construct Over Bridges (Fly Overs) at all Railway Crossings on a war footing; b) Consider widening and proper laying of asphalt on NH17 between Kozhikode and Manjeswaram; and c) Construct new and wide Bridges replacing the present old and dilapidated ones.
