Payyanur
is famous for its educational institutions from the ancient time itself.
The gurukulas which were known as "ezhuthu veedu" (writer-house)
functioned at Payyanur were famous all over Kerala. Payyanur was
well known for its traditional schools of Sanskrit, Ayurveda, and
Astrology.
There
was a very famous Sanskrit School in Payyanur called " Kumara
Vilasini
Sanskrit Paadasala ". This school, started in the
beginning of the twentieth century, was run by the Skanda Samaja of
Payyanur and was aided by Madras State Government

Today
there are a number of educational institutions in and around
Payyanur. The number of Primary schools is about fifty
while there are 10 high schools and two Vocational Higher Secondary
Schools. Plus two courses are available in schools. There are
two recognized schools offering CBSE syllabus and many unaided

College), Edat which is next to the Kendreeya Vidyalaya.
