Payyanur and Co-Operative Sector

As in the other parts of Kerala, the co-operative sector is very strong and active in Payyanur also.  There are a number of co-operatives with a good track record here. The first co-operative to be mentioned is the Payyanur Co-operative Stores.

The Payyanur Co-op Stores has a wide range of operations.  The Stores has  won the award for the  best co-operative of the state many times. The main units of this co-op stores are the textiles, medicals, stationery, x-ray and scanning centre, super market etc.  The stores is also a wholesale rice dealer and runs many ration shops. 

Other major co-operatives are in the banking sector. The Service Co-operative  Bank, the Co-op Rural Bank and the Co-op Town Bank are  the main banks in the co-op sector. These banks are running very efficiently and have got many branches also.  There are two hospitals in Payyanur in the co-operative sector;  Payyanur Co-op Hospital and Indiraji Memorial Co-op hospital.  The Weavers' Co-op society, Society Printing Press, Sahakari Press are the other main co-operatives in Payyanur.

There is an Industrial Training Centre at Annur in the co-operative sector.

Pariyaram Medical College is an example of a very big co-operative establishment in India itself.
